Most of the pens I personally use have F nibs so I can best compare those, the Montegrappa F nib is certainly thinner than a Montblanc or Visconti F, so depending on which pens you're using, you're likely right that it may be a thinner M than some other brands. (the Batman only comes with an F or M nib)
